National Honor Society
Description: The National Honor Society (NHS) of Independence High School is an organization that recognizes and encourages academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to becoming a valued member of society. These other characteristics are: character, service, and leadership.
To be asked to join, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above by the end of the first semester of their junior or senior year. If they qualify academically, they are asked to fill out an application form and submit it to the National Honor Society Advisory Council. The students are then evaluated on their character, service, and leadership abilities. They must have proof of service work, leadership opportunities, and show strong character in and out of the classroom.
The induction is usually held in the spring.
Through NHS chapter service activities and individual projects, our members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection in the first place. Membership is both an honor and a commitment.
