Youth Sports
The Indee Mat Club youth wrestling program is available to anyone in grades K-8. Sign-up for youth wrestling is typically in mid-October each year at the Junior/Senior High commons area. More information will be available at your elementary school as we get closer to sign-up time.
Youth wrestlers in the Mat Club typically practice 1-3 times per week, depending on age, in the Junior/Senior High wrestling room and instructed by junior high and high school coaches. Parents are encouraged to help at practice if they are comfortable working with kids. Our program always welcomes any volunteers who would like to improve the program in any way.
Many area communities host youth tournaments on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday from November through March.
The Mini Mustang is our home youth tournament, which is typically the weekend before Thanksgiving. Participation in these tournaments is encouraged but not required. Most tournaments require a small fee of $10 to $20.
To learn more about the program, please see the Indee Mat Club page on the Independence Wrestling website or email Coach Doyal or Coach Donnelly.
Our Mustang Youth Football program is available for players in 5th & 6th grades. Our teams are part of the Hawkeye Conference run by the Youth Sports Foundation.
Throughout the season we play other youth teams from Alburnett, Denver, East Buchanan, Jesup, Maquoketa Valley, North Linn, Oelwein, Union, Vinton, and Wapsi Valley.
Registration is in March and the season runs from mid-August through mid-October.
For more information on how to get your child involved in the Mustang Youth Football program, please email Josh Hinde, Program Coordinator or visit the Mustang Youth Football Facebook page.
