Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The Independence PTO serves students, teachers, and families in Junior Kindergarten through 6th Grade in the Independence Community School District. Members of the PTO work diligently to ensure the students, teachers, and families have the tools necessary for success. PTO members also focus on hosting family fun events for students and families including semi-annual family movie nights, a Mustang Pride family dance, and the well-known PTO Carnival.

The PTO has funded many things for the schools over the years and has just recently been awarded a Friends of Education Award by the district. Recent purchases and expenses include:

  • Fully funding the 5th-grade field trip to Living History Farms
  • Fully funding the 6th-grade trip to Camp EWALU
  • Mustang water bottles for every student in JK-6th
  • 40 school supply packs
  • Donated $15,000 to the playground project at East and West Elementary
