PTO - Parent Teacher Organization

The Independence PTO serves students, teachers, and families in Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade in the Independence Community School District. The PTO has funded many things for the school over the years and has just recently been awarded a Friends of Education Award by the school for all the great things PTO has done within the schools. PTO has fully funded this year’s 5th grade field trip to Living History Farms and 6th grade trip to Camp EWALU, where the students learn valuable leadership and teamwork skills.

The PTO also purchased a Mustang water bottle for every student in JK-6th grade at the beginning of this school year to keep kids hydrated during those warm first weeks of school. The PTO purchased 40 school supply packs along with various items as requested by teachers to provide students with an enriched learning environment. The Independence PTO also generously donated $15,000 to the playground project at East and West Elementary. Members of the PTO work diligently to ensure the students, teachers, and families have the tools necessary for success. PTO members also focus on hosting family fun events for students and families including semi-annual family movie nights, a Mustang Pride family dance, and the well known PTO Carnival.
