Announcing Indee Student Film Fest

February 22, 2012 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District (ICSD) is pleased to announce the Indee Student Film Fest. The film fest is a video production contest open to all ICSD students (there is no age limit). This year’s video focus is to create a “commercial” selling Independence as the place for families to live.

“The film fest is a way for students to become involved in actively marketing our community while gaining valuable leadership experience,” said Mary Jean Blaisdell, East Elementary Principal and festival organizer. Videos are only to be 45 seconds in length and will be judged on creativity, content clarity, accuracy, production and persuasiveness.

An informational meeting will be held at the Independence Public Library on Wednesday, February 29th at 6:00pm. All students interested in entering the contest are encouraged to attend to learn more and ask questions.

Contest video entries are due no later than Monday, April 10th and award nominees will be announced Friday, April 27th. Winner of Best Picture will be awarded a $250 scholarship through the Independence Area Dollars for Scholars as well as a trophy. Winners in other categories will also receive trophies.

All winners and nominees will be invited to attend the Indee Student Film Fest on May 1st at Starlight Cinema. Nominees will have a chance to walk the red carpet and share their work with the public.
