Class of 1972 Makes Donation to American Trotter Trail

November 6, 2014 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District’s class of 1972 recently made a donation of a bench and trash receptacle to the American Trotter Trail project. This donation was to recognize their graduating class.

While planning their 45th class reunion in 2012, 1972 classmate Cindy Waters mentioned what a unique donation a bench would be to honor their class and make a contribution to the school district they all attended while also setting the tone for other classes to follow.

With some 150 class members, Waters thought that if even 100 classmates donated just $10, they would have $1,000 and would be able to make a significant donation. The reunion committee agreed and put information about the donation in the reunion materials; after only a matter of time the donation checks started coming in… the first one being for $50!

The reunion committee agreed and put information about the donation in the reunion materials; after only a matter of time the donation checks started coming in… the first one being for $50!

The reunion committee is so proud of how the class of 1972 stepped up. Most donations were well above $20 and came from local, out of town and out of state classmates. By the time of the reunion, the class had accumulated enough money to make a donation to the American Trotter Trail and purchase a large block on the plaza at Leinbaugh Field.

Waters stated, “I do hope that this will inspire other classes to support the school, even if they are no longer living in the area. That’s what was so amazing to me… so many of my classmates, no matter where they are currently living, participated!”

Making a donation to the American Trotter Trail is a distinctive way to honor a loved one, remember an achievement, publicize your business name or recognize a graduating class; such as this graduating class did.
