High School Band Awarded Distinguished Academic Achievement

May 6, 2014 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Mustang High School Band has been awarded the Iowa High School Music Association’s Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for the 2013-2014 school year.  This award is based on the collective GPA of the entire performing group and is designed to reward teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well.

The Iowa High School Music Association recognizes two levels of academic achievement, Excellence in Academic Achievement (3.00-3.24 GPA) and Distinguished Academic Achievement (3.25+ GPA).  The following instrumental ensembles were awarded with the Distinguished Academic Achievement:

• Independence Mustang Marching Band with a collective GPA of 3.31
• Independence High School Concert Band with a collective GPA of 3.30
• Independence Jazz Orchestra with a collective GPA of 3.70
• Independence Jazz Ensemble with a collective GPA of 3.34

Congratulations to the Mustang Band for their outstanding musicianship as well as their outstanding academic achievements.
