ICSD 2012-2013 Annual Progress Report
October 2, 2013 (Independence, IA) – At a recent School Broad meeting, Director of Curriculum, Deb Donlea, presented the 2012-2013 Annual Progress Report to Board Members. This report contains data from Iowa Assessments and NWEA.
Iowa Assessments
Districts are judged on their performance on Iowa Assessments, formerly known as ITBS and ITED, in the areas of reading, math, and science for the total population of students and for our subgroups, students with IEPs and students who have low socio-economic status. This assessment is administered once a year. Once data is received on these assessments, staff studies this data. From this process teachers and administrators seek out research based strategies and professional development opportunities to improve their instruction.
As you look at the results for reading, math and science you will notice a majority of our students are performing similar to or above students in the state of Iowa and our AEA, Area Education Agency 267. Below are the findings from our analysis of the Iowa Assessments. Please notice the findings have been divided into overall performance, SES (Low Socioeconomic Status) and IEP (Individualized Education Plan). We take great pride in our students and teachers for the hard work they put into their instruction, so our students are achieving at these levels.

(In regards to the No Child Left Behind Legislation and the State of Iowa Target Goals:) As many of you may remember, No Child Left Behind was put in place to improve student achievement by setting high standards and establishing measurable goals to improve individual outcomes in education. Each year the trajectory continues to rise in hopes that setting the bar high all students will reach 100% proficiency. If schools do not meet their Annual Yearly Progress in state assessments two years in a row, they go through the SINA, (School In Need of Assistance), process. Here is the status of schools within the Independence Community School District.
East Elementary- Met annual yearly progress in reading and math.
West Elementary- Met annual yearly progress in reading and math and has been removed from the SINA list in Math.
Jr./Sr. High- Met annual yearly progress in Math and did not meet progress in Reading, therefore they are on their first year of SINA. A specific plan has been put in place to help the Jr./Sr. High meet this Reading goal.
