April 16, 2014 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District’s Director of Finance, Lynnette Engel, is pleased to report that the 2014-2015 school year Certified Budget (assessment of expenses) will be less than the current year; down 48.5 cents per every $1,000 to be exact.
Engel stated, “This welcomed reduction is due to three factors, we reduced the Cash Reserve Levy by $150,000, lowered the Management Fund by $65,000 and were able to decrease our Bond Payments by $19,000.” Engel adds, “Student enrollment is the number one external factor that drives our budget. There was an increase of about 10 students this past year, which entitles the District to more state aid funds; this in turn helps reduce the amount of financial assistance we rely on elsewhere.”
The ICSD 2014-2015 Certified Budget has been approved by the Independence School Board and has been sent to the state level for final authorization.
