ICSD Senior Named National Merit Semi-Finalist

September 20, 2016, (Independence, IA) – Independence Community School District (ICSD) recently received news that ICSD senior, Grace Bertelli has been named National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist.

Grace received this honor because of her high P-SAT scores. Being named a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist means that she scored in the top 1% of all the juniors who took the P-SAT in the country. Grace is the third ICSD student to be recognized with this honor in the last two years.

Grace will continue on and fulfill the requirements needed to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Typically 90% of the Semi-Finalists will attain Finalist standing and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship and also earn Merit Scholar® title. Winners will be announced in the spring of 2017.

Principal Howard states, “This huge honor is a true reflection of her work ethic, commitment, family support and the great teachers she has had at Independence. ”
