ICSD Takes Part in Healthiest State Initiative

October 9, 2013 (Independence, IA) – Together, let’s make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016! This is the goal the Healthiest State Initiative has set for the state of Iowa.  Their website states:  “According to the 2012 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index®, Iowa is #9 in the nation when it comes to being physically, emotionally and mentally healthy. This is a great improvement from the #16 position we previously held, but we know we can claim the #1 spot by 2016. It’s ambitious, but with your help, we can help change Iowa and show the rest of the nation the road to wellness.”

The Independence Community School District (ICSD) did its part to help the state of Iowa reach this goal by taking part in a Healthiest State Initiative walking event.  Starting at 2:00 pm on October 9th, all the students and staff of ICSD put on their walking shoes and headed to the American Trotter Trail for a 1-kilometer (0.62 miles) walk.  The walk also fits nicely with the ICSD Wellness Committee goal to incorporate walking on a weekly basis for all students.

The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately led public initiative intended to inspire Iowans and their communities throughout the state to improve their health and happiness.   The Initiative spreads the message that improving the wellness and wellbeing of our communities is absolutely vital to our future generations.  For more information about the Healthiest State Initiative, visit www.iowahealthieststate.com.
