Independence FFA Attends State Convention

(April 13, 2017) The Independence FFA competed at State FFA Convention held in Ames April 9^th-11^th. The chapter fielded teams in multiple Ag Skills CDE’s including Marketing Plan, Biotechnology, Farm Business Management, Poultry Judging, Ag CSI, Greenhand Quiz, and Chapter Display. While at the convention the 23 competing members heard from guest speakers, gained new ideas for the chapter, and participated in the meals for the heartland program. The chapter contributed to the 200,000 meals packed for third world countries that day. The chapter was also recognized with a Gold rating for the National Chapter Award. Two members also received their Iowa Degrees while at state convention; Jarret Orr and Syd Etten. Below are the results for all the teams that competed at state:

Marketing Plan: Kirstie Martin, Brynn Martin, and Peighton Prusator- Reserve State Champions- 2^nd Place overall

Biotechnology: Eric Lympus, Joe Kaiser, Meghan Bolton, and Megan Corkery- Silver Rating

Farm Business Management: Jarret Orr, Tanner Erickson-Dale, Matt Bolton, and Ryan Thompson – Bronze Rating

Poultry – Kenzie Fischels, Ellie Nabholz, Jaimee Rowland, and Carson Frye – Bronze Rating

Ag CSI – Grace Bohlken, Sophie Bertelli, Jaden Schwarting, and Delaney Martin

Greenhand Quiz: -Bronze Rating: Carter Nolan, and Keegan Zimmerly
