Independence FFA Meat Evaluation Team Places 6th

August 29th 2016 (Independence, IA) – On August 27th, the Independence FFA Chapter Meat Evaluation team placed 6th place overall and earned a gold rating at the State FFA Meat Evaluation Career Development Event held at Iowa State University. The team members and overall individual placings included Megan Corkery (13th), Peighton Prusator( 18th), Matt Bolton (19th), and Kirstie Martin (20th). The competition was comprised of 50 individuals representing 17 FFA chapters and the top two teams advanced to the National FFA Meat Evaluation CDE in Indianapolis this October. The competition involved a problem-activity based on calculating a ground beef formulation, yield grading and quality grading of beef carcasses, carcass ranking, and retail identification of 25 different retail cuts from beef, pork, and lamb.
