Independence FFA Member Selected for Global Youth Institute

FFA Member Joe Kaiser

Senior Independence FFA Member Joe Kaiser is selected to attend the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines this October.

The World Food Prize organization has extended an invitation for Joe Kaiser to attend the Global Youth Institute this October 18th-20th at the World Food Prize Building in Des Moines. Joe currently serves as the Independence FFA Chapter Vice President. Joe will join 200 other high school students from across the United States as well as internationally to create solutions to end food insecurity in specific regions and countries in the world. He was selected from a pool of 300 Iowa Youth Institute participants this past April due to the quality of his paper he wrote about India and how the infrastructure of the country limited the country’s ability to feed its ever growing population. Independence FFA Advisor, Michael Haden, commented; “Joe did a tremendous job researching the country of India and isolating a factor that really limits the ability of the country to produce and transport enough food for the citizens of India.” The opportunities experienced at the Global Youth Institute are aimed at producing the next generation of young leaders in agriculture needed to feed the world.

Joe will attend this exciting three-day event which he will interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates and discuss pressing food security and agricultural issues with international experts. At the Global Youth Institute, student delegates present and discuss their findings with international experts and their peers, connect with other students from around the world, tour cutting-edge industrial and research facilities, and take part in symposium discussions with global leaders in science, industry and policy. By participating in the Global Youth Institute, Joe is eligible to apply for a prestigious Borlaug-Ruan International Internship, an all-expenses-paid, eight-week hands-on experience, working with world-renowned scientists and policymakers at leading research centers in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
