Independence FFA Members Attend Iowa Pork Congress
On January 26th ten Independence FFA members traveled to Des Moines to compete in the Iowa Pork Congress youth swine-judging event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Students competed in a Keep/Cull Gilt Class, Live Carcass Evaluation, Market Hog Class and Commercial Gilt Class, and Commercial Pork Production and Meat Quality exams. The competition was very fierce, and out of 112 teams competing the chapter team placed 80th. It was a valuable experience for students, and the things they learned will be used at future livestock judging events.
