Meet Coach Zizis

November 16, 2015 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District (ICSD) was proud to welcome Ben Zizis as our Mustang Football Varsity Coordinator and Freshman Offensive Football Coach this year. After an amazing football season, it’s time to learn more about Coach Zizis.

Zizis graduated from Cudahy High School in Cudahy, Wisconsin in 2004. During high school Zizis was actively involved in football, basketball and track and field. After graduating high school, Zizis attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he participated in Track and Field and was named an All-American in 110 High Hurdles in 2007. He graduated in 2010 with a degree in Physical Education and Health. After graduating, Ben continued his education at Upper Iowa University and graduated in 2013 and received his Instructional Strategist I & II degree.

Before coming to Independence, Mr. Zizis was the Varsity Offensive Coordinator at Don Bosco Catholic High School for five years.  In addition to coaching the Mustangs, Ben is an Instructional Strategist and Health educator at EXPO Alternative Learning Center in the Waterloo Community School District.

Ben currently lives in Waterloo with his wife Qynne who is also a teacher in the Waterloo Community School District. They have two miniature Dachshunds. When Ben isn’t teaching or coaching, he enjoys sports, fishing, working out, walking his dogs and spending time with his family.

Zizis states, “I hope to improve fundamentals, techniques, and schemes, and implement a new no huddle offensive philosophy.”
