Moffatt Swims at Winter National Championship
Independence, IA (December 11, 2018) – Dylan Moffatt, a junior at Independence Junior/Senior High School, recently swam at the Winter National Championship swim meet in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Winter National Championship was held November 28 – December 1st.
Moffatt, who swims for Cedar Falls and is a member of the Black Hawk Area Swim Team (BLAST), competed in three different events over the course of three days; the 800 freestyle, 400 freestyle and the 1500 freestyle.
Dylan began his journey with the 800 freestyle on Wednesday night and came in 23rd place with a time of 8:41.473. On Thursday morning, he continued with the 400 freetsyle, finishing in 37th place with a time of 4:10.13. His final race, the 1500 freestyle, took place on Saturday afternoon. Moffatt swam hard and finished in 13th place with a time of 16:17.43.
In order to qualify for the Winter National Championship swimmers are required to achieve a qualifying time within in a specific time range for each event. Dylan attained qualifying times for each of his events over the past year and a half.
Principal John Howard had this to say after Moffatt’s appearance at Winter Nationals, “Dylan exemplifies excellence in the pool and in the classroom. His success directly correlates to his determination and strong work ethic to excel in both athletics and academics.”
