Mustangs Honor State Champs at Homecoming Game

September 7, 2016 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District (ICSD) is making plans to honor the anniversaries of some of our State Champ teams and individuals at this year’s homecoming game.

The homecoming football game is set for Friday, September 23rd vs. Charles City. There will be a ceremony between the JV and Varsity games to honor past state champs; some of which will be present for the ceremony.

The record anniversaries that will be honored will include:
90th Anniversary – William Wilkinson – Track and Field – Discus (1927)
20th Anniversary – Scott Eddy – Wrestling – HWT (1997)
10th Anniversary – Holli Hosch – Track and Field – 400 M and 800 M (2007)

21st Anniversary – Baseball (1996)
20th Anniversary – Men’s Golf (1997)
50th Anniversary – Men’s Track and Field (1967)
10th & 20th Anniversary – Wrestling (2007 & 1997)
20th Anniversary – Softball (1997)

State Teams:
20th Anniversary – Baseball (2nd in 1997)
20th Anniversary – Wrestling (State Dual Champions in 1997)
10th & 20th – Anniversary Jazz Band (State Champions in 2007 & Q in 1997)

The Honorary Captains for the Homecoming game will be the 1966 Football team.
They will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary of winning WaMaC.
