Mustangs Name New Jr./Sr. High Science Teacher
September 9, 2015 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District (ICSD) is pleased to introduce Matthew Shannon as a new Jr./Sr. High Science Teacher.
An Independence native, Matt graduated from Independence High School in 2007. While in high school, he was actively involved in football and wrestling.
After graduating high school Shannon went on to Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa where he received his BA in Secondary Education and Biology.
After graduating from Clarke University in 2011, Shannon got his first teaching job at Wapsi Valley teaching science for three years. He was also a long-term substitute in the Jesup Community School District.
Mr. Shannon and his wife Heidi live in Independence. Heidi is also in the teaching field. She is currently a Special Education teacher in the Wapsi Valley School District.
When Shannon is not teaching, he is still actively involved in the ICSD. He has been involved in the Mustang Wrestling program for eight years and the Mustang Football program for four. Shannon also puts together Mustang Wrestling history books. He has discovered Mustang athletic information dating back to 1898.
