December 17, 2013 (Independence, IA) – The Independence School District (ICSD) is excited to welcome Travis McBride, former Mustang student, to the school staff. McBride has filled the role of Auditorium Manager and Technician.
McBride has extensive knowledge and experience with audio, technology, and electronics. Prior to taking his position with ICSD, he was a student at the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with an Electronic Media degree (December 2012 graduate). While at UNI Travis was involved with UNI television and student radio, interned at Around the Corner Productions, and worked on many student produced and directed productions. McBride is also a 2008 graduate from Independence High School, where he participated in Jazz band and was involved in the audio/tech side of the school concerts, plays, and musicals.
Often referred to as the “Oz behind the curtain”, much of Travis’ work is done backstage or behind the scenes. He coordinates the audio, lighting, filming and more for all home sporting events, school plays, musicals, concerts, and other events held in the district. He also runs the video board in the new Jr. /Sr. high school gymnasium.
After a 6 year absence, McBride has brought the AV Tech club back to the ICSD. He serves as the AV Tech Advisor to 10 students, who work on broadcasting, editing, producing and more. It was this group of students that filmed and edited this year’s City Council Candidate Forum that was held in the High School Auditorium.
Outside of school, McBride is male vocalist and plays multiple instruments in the band, Stampede. He has served on the 4th of July Committee where he helped backstage, is a certified storm spotter, and a longtime fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.
“It’s great to see the students have such a positive reaction to working with the technology!” said McBride. As the Auditorium Manager, McBride emphasizes the importance of understanding how much hard work the students behind the scenes put into school events. “While an event may only last for one hour, the students have been putting in multiple hours every day after school for a week prior to the event to be sure everything is setup properly and ready to go.”
