Mustangs Welcome New 5th Grade Teacher
November 2, 2015 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District (ICSD) is delighted to introduce Ricky Nolan as a new 5th Grade teacher.
Nolan is a 1994 graduate of Waterloo East High School. After graduating from high school Nolan took a job with Bossard Group in Cedar Falls, where he worked in many different positions for 18 years.
After deciding to go back to school to teach, Nolan graduated from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. From there he student taught at Poyner Elementary School in Evansdale, Iowa and at Independence’s West Elementary with Mrs. Kinseth.
Nolan has also been involved in coaching volleyball for Waterloo West off and on for the last 12 years. When asked if he would soon be involved in coaching a Mustang team he said, “it might be a possibility in the future.”
Ricky lives in Jesup with his girlfriend Sarah Curry and his four children who attend Jesup Community Schools. Cade, 15, is a freshman, Gavin, 12, is in 7th grade, Tyler, 9, is in 4th grade and Ava, 8, is in 3rd grade.
Mr. Nolan spends his summers camping or at the ball field. He loves coaching his son’s traveling baseball teams, attending tournaments and watching Ava’s gymnastics meets. He has also been involved in the IBL Program and the Jr. JHawks for the last 6 years.
Nolan states, “I’m excited to start my teaching career with Independence Community Schools. I look forward to working with everyone and am glad to be part of such a great community.”
