Cherilyn Reed named new Principal of West Elementary

August 23, 2016 (Independence, IA) – The Independence Community School District (ICSD) is pleased to introduce Cherilyn Reed as the new West Elementary Principal.

Originally from Independence, Mrs. Reed is happy to be back in Independence. After graduating from Independence High School in 1996, Reed attended the University of Northern Iowa where she attained her BA in English Education with a minor in 5-12 reading and her Master’s degree in Communications and an Advanced Studies Certificate in Principalship.

Mrs. Reed has been in the education field for 15 years. Prior to her new role, she taught 9th– 12th grade English in State Center, Iowa for the West Marshall School District. For the past eleven years she taught 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and was an Instructional Coach for the Marshalltown Community School District. 

Reed and her husband Todd, who is the new 3rd – 8th grade Talented and Gifted teacher, have relocated their family to Independence where their children will also attend the Independence Community Schools. Son Ranger is in 3rd grade and daughter Isla is in 1st grade.

Mrs. Reed is excited to provide support and facilitate education opportunities for all students to learn, demonstrate and apply at high levels.
