Old High School Demolition to Commence Soon

August 31, 2015 (Independence, IA) – Many residents are wondering when the old high school will be demolished.  If you have driven by the old high school the past few weeks, you will notice that Lansing Brothers Construction installed a safety fence around the perimeter of the site.  They have also been busy filling the North parking lot with fill dirt, which will be used to fill the lower levels and grade the site upon completion.  During the past several weeks, Lansing Brothers has been salvaging various items from inside the building.

With the salvaging process nearly complete, Lansing Brothers expects to start the demolition of the old high school the week of August 31st through September 4th.  They will be mobilizing equipment and will commence demolition.  The buildings are expected to be fully removed and the final grading to occur by the end of September.

For those interested in a brick as a memory, Lansing Brothers will also be piling up bricks from the facility for the District to make available.  The school district will provide details on how you can obtain a brick in the near future.
