Wrestling Program Needs Community Support to Win National Best of Brand Awards

May 27, 2014 (Independence, IA) – In an effort to promote High School Wrestling across the nation, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) started the Best of Brand initiative. The Best of Brand Awards are designed to honor wrestling programs for their investment in marketing and promotion. By honoring high school, youth, and club wrestling programs, coaches are inspired to engage in branding initiatives at all levels to grow the sport.

The Mustangs have qualified for two of the three Best of Brand awards:

Best of Brand “Better Than Good Graphic”, which recognizes programs who developed a promotional graphic that is utilized throughout the season. The Mustangs submitted their “Break the Chains” roster poster to the “Better Than Good Graphic” competition.

Best of Brand “Added-Value Video”, which awards programs that create the best promotional video. With the growing importance of videos in social media, the development of innovative videos during the wrestling season is essential to building programs brands and the sport of wrestling as a whole. The video the Mustangs submitted can be found here: http://youtu.be/sTxRmGrCW5c.

The winner will be selected based on two key elements: a panel of judges assessing video quality and performance as well as a social media campaign which concludes with an online voting component… this is where the Mustangs need your help!

Online voting will feature a “Battle Round” bracket challenge format. Teams will be paired based on their seeding and will battle head-to-head each day to advance in the competition. Each round of voting will be open for one day from 12:00pm to 9:00pm EST, and the program must win that day’s vote to advance to the next round.

“Better Than Good Graphic” voting dates:
Day 1: Quarterfinals Monday, June 2nd
Day 2: Semifinals Tuesday, June 3rd
Day 3: Finals Wednesday, June 4th

“Added-Value Video” voting dates:
Day 1: Round 1 Monday, June 16th
Day 2: Quarterfinals Tuesday, June 17th
Day 3: Semifinals Wednesday, June 18th
Day 4: Finals Thursday, June 19th

To vote for the Mustangs, visit the match-up polls on the NWCA site www.nwcaonline.com. There will be a link to the voting page and each person may vote once per hour from all devices.

“The Best of Brand competition is critical because it influences our sport at all levels,” said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. “These programs have made investments that will increase interest surrounding their program and this is very important to the health of wrestling.”

The results for the Best of Brand awards will be announced at the 2014 NWCA Convention that will take place in Fort Lauderdale, FL from August 1st-3rd. The winner will receive a custom framed awards poster and will be nationally recognized in a featured story that will be housed on the ELFM and NWCA website.
